Oceanside CA— On Sunday, December 7, 2014, at 8:59am., the Oceanside Police Department received a call of a collision involving a vehicle that went through a fence at the reporting party’s residence. Further information revealed that a subject was trapped in a vehicle.
As Officers arrived the preliminary investigation indicated that four vehicles were involved. A Ford truck was westbound on Hwy 78 and went through the intersection at the freeway’s end at a high rate of speed according to witnesses. The Ford truck rear ended a Kia passenger car near the intersection of Moreno St sending the Kia into a spin. The Kia then struck a Toyota truck that was traveling westbound ahead of it. The Ford truck continued into the eastbound lane of Vista Way and struck an eastbound Chevrolet truck. The driver of the Ford sustained moderate injuries as did the driver of the Chevrolet truck. Both were flown to Scripps La Jolla Hospital for treatment. The driver of the Toyota had complaints of pain and was released at the scene. The driver of the Kia, a 29 year old female, suffered significant injuries and as a result died.
The Medical Examiner was notified and the name of the victim is being withheld pending next of kin notification.
The drivers of the other vehicles were interviewed and based on the preliminary investigation it does not appear that alcohol was a factor in the collision, however, speed may have been. A Sig Alert was issued by the CHP and Vista Way was closed for traffic between Moreno St and Steward St. for about seven hours.
The investigation is ongoing. The Oceanside Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is conducting the investigation. Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to call Accident Investigator Yanci Blackwell at (760) 435-4801.
